Title: Gaining Greater Understanding of the NC Professional Teaching Standards - Standard 1 Deep Dive
Presenters: Jennifer Bass & Heather Stewart
Description: Participants will gain a greater understanding of the rubric continuum through dialogue and discovery. Aligned to Standard 1, they will analyze elements and descriptors, connect learning with evidences and behaviors, and explore resources to use for coaching and conferencing. Participants will also reflect on practice by setting goals for implementation and next steps.

Title: Coaching For Leadership- Standard 1
Presenters: Angela Jackson & Dr. Gerri Martín
Description: Participants will gain a deeper understanding of Standard 1 by focusing on coaching strategies and techniques. They will examine the language of the rubric, analyze coaching protocols and practice coaching strategies used for teacher growth and school improvement. A portion of the session will include guided practice using a coaching protocol, opportunity to identify coaching techniques that work best for them and receive immediate feedback from their colleagues.

Title: If You Inspire... You are a Leader!
Presenter: Michael White, Principal, Jones County Schools
Description: Staff from Jones Senior High School will discuss their role as leaders in the school, how they inspire other teachers and students to be leaders, and ideas that have helped increase our achievement scores as well as inspire kids to finish high school in four years. Principal and teachers will present how Data Teams, Advisor/Advisee, and extracurricular clubs have been implemented, increased student performance, and helped increase the graduation rate. Note: While this session is given by a high school it is for all school levels.

Title: Utilizing the Formative Assessment Process to Drive School Improvement
Presenter: Heather Boston, Director of MTSS and AIG-Carteret County Schools:
Description: Participants will learn more about the philosophy of the NC K-3 Formative Assessment Process, learn to utilize report options to guide implementation and student learning, and how to guide conversations around student data collected in the K-3 FAP.

Title: Teachers ARE Leaders
Presenter: Teika Clavell, Digital Teaching and Learning Consultant, NCDPI
Session Description: Demonstrating Standard I focuses on advocacy, modeling, and leading both in the classroom and in the school. In a school environment, too many chiefs can lead to conflicts so what better way to help all be leaders than through communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.....WAIT!!! Those are the 4 C's of technology! You got it! Let Teika show you how technology tools can help all your teachers be leaders in the classroom and sharing those tools and methodologies to the school. This session will be high energy with real classroom and school examples to broaden your comfort level on technology integration into Standard I - Teachers ARE Leaders! But wait, there's more........BRING YOUR LAPTOPS! Sharing is caring and Teika will share and give you all of the tech presentations she has to increase your teachers' technology tools as well.

Secondary MTSS Implementation and Problem-Solving
Presenter: Angie Cloninger, MTSS Consultants, NCDPI
This session will explore MTSS implementation and how problem solving guides and informs implementation at the secondary level.

NCEES: A Fresh Look

Presenter: Dr. Kimberly Simmons, Educator Evaluation Coordinator, NCDPI
Description: How can North Carolina schools establish and sustain observation and feedback practices that increase student learning? NCDPI is committed to improving evaluation impact on teaching, and minimizing the burden on educators. The accuracy of the evaluation process and quality of timely feedback vary widely across districts and within schools. We recognizes the need for more training to accelerate improvements in teaching. Our fresh look will focus on removing the misconceptions using the NCEES and how to impact teaching through the evaluation process. During this session, participants will:
  • Gain clarification around misconceptions of the NCEES process
  • Understand the multi-purpose rubric used in the teacher evaluation
  • Build skills for coaching teachers with a Teacher-Directed Conversation using low inference data
  • Relate the PDP as a road map for teacher growth

Service Support Team
The Statewide System of Support is comprised of four service support teams. Within these area teams, cross-agency staff members collaborate to serve the state's eight prosperity zones, by collecting and analyzing data to identify common needs and offer customized support for school improvement by engaging in the following:
  • Analyze data to develop and implement targeted professional learning
  • Identify and develop resources for educator growth and improvement
  • Guide LEAs and Charters with effective resource allocation decisions
  • Assess and modify the quality and alignment of the services provided by the team
