Fall 2014

Principal READY Support Sessions Resume This Fall

We are excited to announce the 2014-15 Principal READY sessions for this fall in each region. Building on the foundation we established during fall and spring of 2013-14, Principal READY will focus on instructional leadership to help the principal support teachers. Participants will collaboratively explore curriculum tools and resources that will help their teachers improve content knowledge and instructional skills, with a specific focus on mathematics. These meetings and supporting resources are part of the State’s READY work, with Principal READY providing a unique opportunity for administrators to work in groups, discussing the standards and classroom observations. Principals will collaborate with colleagues and DPI staff to support instructional capacity through a strong, consistent implementation of the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System.

Assessing Lesson Plans and Units using the EQuIP Rubric

EQuIP (Educators Evaluating the Quality of Instructional Products) is an initiative of Achieve designed to identify high-quality materials aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In this session participants will explore the EQuIP Rubric and identify how it can be used to improve instruction.

Principles to Actions - Theoretical Connection

This session is an extension of the morning delivery, Principles to Actions. Connections will be made between teacher beliefs that are productive vs. unproductive. Once understood, principals are better able to coach teachers without in-depth content knowledge. Groundwork created in this session will build confidence and knowledge for administrators so that evaluation in mathematics can be focused and coherent.

Coaching Mathematics Instruction for Student Learning

This session will offer school leaders effective strategies for coaching teachers. School leaders will identify ways to promote teaching that results in optimal learning by analyzing the impact of teacher actions on student learning.
